Living Life to the Full
This six-week CBT-based programme helps you manage stress, worry, or low mood by teaching practical skills to cope with life’s challenges.
Living Life to the Full is a free six-week programme for people experiencing mild to moderate depression or for those interested in learning more about minding their mental health. The programme uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) concepts – the most evidence-based talking therapy for people experiencing low mood, anxiety or depression.
The programme can be delivered both face-to-face and online. Sessions typically last between one and a half to two hours, and there are six sessions that are delivered over six weeks.
Living Life to the Full can help you manage your feelings when you are stressed, worried or depressed and learn simple, practical skills to help you cope with life’s challenges.
The programme has been developed by Dr Chris Williams, professor of psychiatry at the University of Glasgow and a recognised expert in developing self-help resources based on CBT.
It introduces participants to the ‘Five Areas Approach’ which illustrates that events and situations in our lives affect how we think, how we feel, how we behave and also affect us physically.
Thinking and behaviour are the two areas that we have the most control over, if we tend to think and/or behave in extreme and unhelpful ways, it can adversely affect the other areas and lead to us getting caught in a ‘vicious circle’. The programme, therefore, focuses on how we can challenge and change our thinking and behaviour in order to turn the circle into a ‘virtuous circle’.
Programme content includes:
- What is mental health?
- Mental health at work
- Looking after our mental health
- Mental ill-health conditions including signs and symptoms of stress and depression
- Sources of help
- How AWARE NI can help
This programme sits within Tier Two of the Public Health Agency (PHA) Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention Training Framework.
